Parametric Analysis of Centrifugal Pump for Performance Improvement

摘要

The centrifugal pump is mainly used for industrial purposes and domestic purposes to lift the liquid from the lower level to the higher level. The manufacturer has to make changes as per the customer’s requirements. It is not possible to manufacture or design a new pump every time, and also, it is not feasible and cost-effective. So, processes like blade trimming and tongue cutting are done to achieve the customer's requirement, which may reduce centrifugal pump performance in the form of higher power consumption and reduction in efficiency. In this work, numerical results obtained are analyzed by using ANSYS fluent R15. A comprehensive study of centrifugal pump performance and behaviour of fluid inside the pump, effects of changing rotational speed, discharge, number of blades on the impeller, and impeller trimming are explored in this work. Analysis of the current design resulted in ideas for improvement, and a new design was created based on those suggestions. The new design of the pump was then numerically analyzed to support its capability for greater performance.
