摘要

Industrial crop plants, whether they are used for fiber, timber, energy crops, oilseed nonfood, rubber resin, medicinal, or aromatic, are not only essential for economic growth worldwide but also for food security and overall human welfare. However, the loss of plant genetic diversity that frequently occurs from their production raises conservation concerns and creates significant risks to the sustainability of industrial crop production, which must always exist alongside environmental sustainability. This chapter explores the value of harnessing plant genetic diversity and how important it is to solve plant and environmental conservation problems. We explore the benefits of plant genetic diversity, conservation strategies, and case studies in using potential genetic diversity for tackling conservation concerns.
