European Vocational Education and Training

On the basis of preparatory work by the European social partners and the Commission, three work priorities were established for the Copenhagen process: An important step in the development of vocational education and training in Europe is the ECVET project, established by the European Commission in 2005. The aim of this project is to facilitate the transferability of assessed learning outcomes of individuals from one educational context to another: With ECVET, vocational competences acquired by learners during training in another European country can be recorded, documented, and recognized as part of their qualification in the country of origin. The methods and instruments developed in the development phase from 2005 onward were published as a recommendation by the European Parliament and Council in 2009. The evaluation results were published in the “Council Recommendation of 24.11.2020 on vocational education and training for sustainable competitiveness, social justice and resilience.”
