Japan and the Business Leaders’ Coalition for Global Health
摘要
The Japanese government has facilitated global health policy and it formulated Japan’s Global Health Strategy on May 24, 2022. On December 3, 2021, Bill Gates and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held a teleconference during which they agreed that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (Gates Foundation) and the Japanese government would collaborate to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic and to support a summit on the global challenge of malnutrition in Tokyo. The details of the teleconference were not broadcast, but what did the billionaire philanthropist discuss with the Japanese prime minister? This chapter examines the role of the Gates Foundation as well as the Japanese “Business Leaders’ Coalition for Global Health” as part of stakeholders and promotors of global health policy in Japan and the world.
