Initial Evaluation of Water Quality in the Labac River Watershed Segment, Indang, Cavite: A Preliminary Study

River water is vital for various purposes, such as agriculture, drinking water, transportation, electricity, and recreation. However, the increasing contamination of river water from natural and human sources poses a significant environmental issue and profoundly impacts its quality. This study aimed to monitor and analyze the water quality from August to October in a portion of the Labac River watershed in Indang, Cavite. Color, pH, temperature, BOD, DO, Pb, Cd, and flow rate were considered for analyzing river network water. The collection of water samples was based on the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater to avoid experimental errors and ensure the accuracy of results. The samples were submitted and analyzed by JefCor and PrimeWater laboratories. The recorded values were compared against the established WQG values, and one-way ANOVA and Pearson correlation analysis were conducted to analyze the parameters’ concentration. Each parameter was significantly different from the other (p-value = 2.6134E−15). The correlation of the physiochemical parameters had no monotonic correlation, therefore, was not statistically significant (p-value > 0.05). Moreover, all the parameters, except color from September results, were within the permissible DENR WQG values. Thus, the study indicated that during the wet season, natural and anthropogenic sources of contamination do not significantly affect the condition and water quality in the segment of the Labac River network, further implying that the river network is deemed suitable for various purposes, characterized as safe, secure, and in satisfactory condition.
