Optimization Design of Helical Cylindrical Gears

Based on the material properties of the gears, the gear design model was established. Parameters include tip thickness, contact ratio, sliding factor at tooth tip, edge radius, contact safety factor, bending safety factor, etc. The calculation results show that the error between the calculation programs and commercial software were less than 4%. Finally, the contact safety factors, bending safety factors, and total contact ratio were selected as the optimization objective, and the gear parameters were optimized by using the NSGAII and NSGAIII optimization algorithms, The optimization results show that the bending safety factors were improved more than 5.6% with NSGA II, improved more than 7.7% with NSGA III. The design efficiency was improved because it was no longer rely on the experience of engineers but on automatic optimization.
