Numerical Analysis of Flow Over Slitted Cylinder Under High Blockage
摘要
A slit through the cylinder is one of the major passive techniques being exploited to minimize the total drag in case of flow over the circular cylinder. Present study demonstrates the two-dimensional analysis of flow past cylinder with rectangular slit and the influence of varying slit-to-diameter ratio over total drag under the highly confined condition that is blockage ratio of 0.9 with the help of finite element-based solver. Some studies have been dedicated to working towards cylinder with slit and cylinder under a high blockage ratio of 0.9 but the arrangement used in the present study is not being examined yet and this research gap is the prominent motive behind this study. Outcomes convey the fact that the presence of rectangular slit in the cylinder has given greater impact to the value of total drag, though it is found to be more eminent for low values of Reynolds number ranges from 5 to 20, rather than high values of Reynolds number ranges from 40 to 100. Increment in slit-to-diameter ratio leads to diminish the formation of standing vortices at the rear end of the cylinder and reduce the value of total drag as well.
