Reaping the Benefits of Gene Modulations in Animals in the Era of Genomics

Since the last two decades, animal science has been transformed by rapid advances in biotechnology—a field of biology that encompasses a variety of technologies, including transgenics, recombinant DNA techniques and cloning, among others. Transgenic technology has attracted widespread attention of Indian researchers during this period. Research in animal biotechnology is driven by the application of this technology to unravel functions of genes, improve productivity, consistency, and quality of food, producing biopharmaceuticals and generating organs and tissues for xenotransplantation.
