Effects of Coil Geometries on the Performance of Electromagnetic Halbach Array Wireless Power Transfer Systems

This paper compares the performance of the Electromagnetic Halbach Array-Wireless Power Transfer (EHA-WPT) systems with three different geometries, i.e. square prism, pentagonal prism and hexagonal prism. Two sets of the EHA-WPT systems with set-A, circular receiver, and set-B receiver that is same as the base coil were studied. The Series-Parallel compensation topology was used for tuning the capacitors to achieve the optimum power transfer efficiency. Open-circuit voltage and power transfer efficiency of the systems were determined using Ansys Electronics Desktop. The best EHA-WPT configuration in terms of output voltage and power transfer efficiency has been recommended. The pentagonal EHA provides the highest power transfer efficiency while the hexagonal EHA offers a uniform power transfer efficiency over a long power transfer distance.
