Nanoparticles in Phytovirus Management

Plant viral diseases have a significant negative economic impact and endanger sustainable agriculture. Organic and inorganic nanoparticle-based technologies have been developed in recent years, opening up exciting new research opportunities. Unique nanoparticles have different physicochemical features that enable them to interact with host plants, viruses, and their vectors in a variety of beneficial and novel ways. Due to their special association with the production of antivirals, these substances were widely employed to combat phytoviruses. It is essential to understand all parameters, such as the time of application, the concentration of nanoparticles, application intervals, and their mode of action, to effectively control plant viruses and investigate the antiviral function of nanoparticles. Considering the antiviral function and the complex and multidimensional viewpoint of nanotechnology in the treatment, detection, and management of plant viral diseases, this chapter focuses on many features of nanoparticles, such as their interaction with plant viruses and their mechanism of action and the toxicological hazards.
