The Interaction of Nanoparticles with Phytopathogens and Plants: The Impact on Plant Health

There is a growing human population on Earth, and the demand for food and nourishment is also increasing. However, crop diseases cause food losses. Even though chemical pesticides improve yield, they harm both humans and the environment; therefore, new antimicrobial agents are required. In recent studies, nanoparticles have been found to be a valuable tool for reducing plant disease. The use of nanotechnologies in agriculture is therefore worthwhile. Nanotechnology’s application in crop yield improvement and disease reduction is summarized in this chapter. It examines the use of nanotechnology in agriculture and the food industry to meet the growing human population’s demand for food and nourishment. By allowing the manipulation of individual molecules and atoms, nanotechnology offers prospective solutions to problems such as crop diseases and food losses. Nanomaterials can be utilized as pesticides, fertilizers, and biosensors, as well as to improve nutrition, distribute bioactive components and micronutrients safely, and preserve food. The chapter also explores how nanotechnology has the potential to reduce pesticide use and enhance soil remediation while emphasizing the importance of conducting comprehensive research on the impacts of nanoparticles on plants, animals, and humans. The chapter discusses prospective research topics for enhancing nano-integrated agriculture systems and highlights nanotechnology applications in crop yield improvement and disease reduction.
