摘要

The increasing demand for sustainable energy storage solutions has spurred significant interest in exploring renewable materials for advanced energy devices. This book chapter focuses on the potential of nanocellulose derived from agro-waste as a novel and eco-friendly material for energy storage applications. The chapter begins with an overview of nanocellulose and its exceptional properties, emphasising the significance of utilising agro-waste as a renewable and abundant source for nanocellulose production. The chapter then delves into the application of nanocellulose in advanced energy storage devices, particularly in supercapacitors, batteries, and fuel cells. A comprehensive examination of experimental studies and case examples highlights the promising improvements achieved in energy storage performance, such as enhanced energy density, improved charge-discharge rates, and extended cycle life. Moreover, the environmentally friendly aspects and sustainability considerations of using nanocellulose in energy storage are explored. As an emerging field, the chapter concludes with a forward-looking perspective on the role of nanocellulose from agro-waste in revolutionising energy storage technologies and promoting a greener and more sustainable energy landscape.
