Energy Production from Sugarcane Bagasse and Rice Husk

Agricultural residues are crucial benefactors of reserves for energy as well as material production. Sugarcane bagasse and rice husk are utilized as raw materials for the production of electricity and heat. These are also converted into bioethanol and biogas which are renewable resources of energy. Sugarcane bagasse is the fibrous remnant which is leftover when sugarcane is compressed to extract the juice, while rice husk is the external layer of the rice grain that is separated while milling. The two wastes are lignocellulosic, implying that they consist of complex carbohydrates and lignin, which could be Vigo-rated to generate energy. There are various technologies convenient for the transformation of sugarcane bagasse and rice husk into bioenergy, including direct combustion, gasification, and pyrolysis. Besides imparting renewable energy, the usage of sugarcane bagasse and rice husk for bioenergy also provides various other advantages, like waste reduction, economic development, and job creation. In this chapter, these technologies have been extensively examined and are substantially operable for energy production.
