Social media is transforming the way individuals interact with each other and is widely used in all professional fields and disciplines. Newer tools are emerging and so is the research around those tools in almost all sectors including education and health. This has led to a new dimension in the communication studies and e-health communication is gaining popularity as a new discipline. It is essential for health researchers, policy planners, and educators to understand the dynamics of interactions through social media and what factors interplay with each other. From the user’s perspective, what platform is used and what information is provided needs to be credible and trustworthy. This implies caution with the strategies used to achieve health outcomes with available resources. This chapter presents a brief synopsis of how social media is used for health promotion with a set of proposed guidelines. These guidelines can further facilitate the meaningful use of social media for improved health conditions.

摘要
