This chapter explores the systemic barriers that Black, low-income, and other marginalized communities face in accessing reproductive healthcare, which can limit their ability to make informed decisions about their reproduction. It focuses on the reproductive justice (RJ) framework and movement, a vision developed by Black women and advanced by women of color advocating for reproductive rights. The RJ framework encompasses four core tenets: the right not to have children, the right to have children, the right to social and economic support for parenting, and the right to sexual and bodily autonomy. By reviewing these tenets, the chapter discusses both historical and contemporary instances of reproductive oppression, emphasizing the necessity of each tenet. The chapter concludes by examining global RJ movements and offers recommendations for future directions.
