This chapter will explore the various social determinants that impact the health and well-being of individuals who come from migrant and refugee backgrounds. Migration has become a widespread global phenomenon, greatly affecting the overall health and well-being of countless individuals and communities worldwide. However, it is important to acknowledge that migrants and refugees face unique challenges based on their social status. Often, they are seen as “other” and treated accordingly. Moreover, within the migrant population, there are diverse identities and experiences that necessitate careful consideration to understand the diverse identities and experience. Therefore, this chapter adopts the social determinants and intersectional lens to analyze the health and well-being of migrants and refugees. It argues that multiple realities exist, which can significantly influence their lives and overall health outcomes. Recognizing these complexities is vital for policymakers and healthcare providers to achieve culturally sensitive healthcare and work toward reducing or eliminating health inequalities with these populations.
