The free-listing method, a research approach from anthropology, has gained popularity in recent years for its ability to offer insights into how individuals perceive or conceptualize a cultural domain. In this method, participants list or mention all elements they associate with a cultural domain or concept. Various methodological tools are used to analyze perceptions and behaviors related to cultural domains. The most common indexes in the free-listing method include Smith’s Index, the Cognitive Salience Index (CSI), and the B’ Index. Additionally, multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis help identify shared characteristics within the cultural domain under study. Cluster analysis, in particular, aids in understanding groups of consumers with a heightened awareness and preference for certain foods. Overall, the free-listing method is a highly valuable tool for examining dietary behaviors within populations and their relationship to health promotion through food. This chapter examines the applications of the free-listing method, applying it to a sample of consumers in Mexico to explore their perceptions of superfoods.

摘要
