Sport and Exercise Science: Its Role in Health Behavior and Health Promotion
摘要
Sport and exercise science is a multidisciplinary field that covers the study of human movement, physical activity, human performance, physical exercise, and the impact of these factors on overall health, performance, and well-being. It uses various sciences, such as anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, psychology, medicine, and sociology, to understand the basic mechanisms of human movement and to optimize their physical performance and health effects. Fundamentally, sport and exercise science attempts to investigate how the human body responds and adapts to different types and intensities of physical activity, as well as how human behaviors affect health, well-being, and the risk of disease. Regular exercise and physical activity are important for promoting health and preventing chronic illnesses. Individualized strategies can be designed to suit an individual’s needs, preferences, and health goals. This includes developing a customized exercise prescription based on factors such as age, performance levels, health status, and specific health conditions. Additionally, the psychological and behavioral aspects of participation in exercise and physical activities also are necessary to consider, as well as strategies to motivate adherence and change behaviors to enhance long-term commitments to a healthy lifestyle. This chapter aims to represent integrating knowledge from different disciplines and using evidence-based approaches to empower individuals and communities to lead healthier, more functional lives, ultimately reducing the burden of chronic disease and improving overall public health.
