Towards Complexity, Area Reduction of Channelizer of Software Defined Radio
摘要
Spectrum scarcity is a major problem with growing licensed users. Cognitive radio suggests efficient utilization of the radio spectrum. The basic concept of cognitive radio is to find the spectral occupancy of a licensed user and provide space to unlicensed users. CRs use smart software defined radios. The channelizer is a computationally complex part of a software defined radio. In first part of the paper, channelization is studied from all aspects of literature. In second part of paper, we suggest the novel module of coefficient decimation using interpolated filter to reduce multiplication complexity. The coefficient decimation module using interpolated filter is studied with different design examples and found to have reduced multiplication complexity. The module is studied for different values of interpolation and decimation factors. Also, an FIR filter is implemented using ternary adders as prototype filter in filter bank using FPGA Xilinx XC5vlx330-1ff 1760 FPGA and found to have 72% and 21% less area than earlier filter banks DFTFB and CDFB, respectively.
