Evaluation of Beam–Column Connection Capacity According to SNI 2847–2019 and SNI 1726–2019

Building codes and standards in Indonesia are constantly evolving in line with research developments and adapting to new technology. This has an impact on existing buildings that were designed with older building codes. The beam–column connection is a highly vulnerable element during earthquakes and plays a crucial role in resisting lateral forces. The changes in these building codes will affect the safety of existing building structures that were designed using the previous SNI regulations. Therefore, an evaluation of the capacity of existing buildings using the old regulations is necessary. The capacity of beam–column connections was evaluated using the most recent regulations, SNI 2847-2019 and SNI 1726-2019. The calculation employed the SMRF system, while the buildings used reinforced concrete structures with a critical area joining the beam structure and the column structure. The area is critical because when an earthquake occurs, this joint will cause a large shear force. If the joint between the beam and column is not strong enough to retain the shear forces caused by the load, the structure will suffer severe damage. Therefore, the joint connecting the beam and column must be analyzed. The flexural reinforcement capacity consisting of five conditions had the largest Mu of 253.133 kN m and the nominal moment of 387.015 kN m. The analysis of beam–column connection increased the value of Vn by 2715.58 kN, with a Vu value of 2362.76 kN. Thus, the capacity of beam–column connection from floors 1 to 13 has been fulfilled without any improvement.
