An Overview of Research Investigating the Behavior of Reduced Beam Section Connections

This study presents a thorough examination of moment-resisting steel frames using the reduced beam section connection model by focusing on the distinctive geometry and its characteristics. Through detailed analysis and examination, the research aims to offer a deeper understanding of how this specific shape influences the overall response and capacity of moment-resisting steel frames. A variety of RBS cutouts is investigated in line with its influences of different parameters recently investigated by previous research, including their effect of cutting parameters, web stiffener, panel zone, beam web slenderness, composite floor slab, and composite column on connection. Moreover, further assessments conducted by refining the RBS shape at specific frame locations in order to enhance the performance of the RBS steel frame are also discussed. The findings of this study have significant implications for the design, analysis, and optimization of structural systems that incorporate the distinctive characteristics of the reduced beam section connection model derived for hysteretic response.
