Accuracy Comparison of Single-Polarization (C-Band) and Dual-Polarization (X-Band) Weather Radars in Rainfall Estimation Process Within the Yogyakarta Region

Weather radar is a cornerstone of meteorological research, providing high-resolution data on precipitation characteristics. It plays a crucial role in quantitative precipitation estimation (QPE). This study compares the accuracy of single-polarization radar (C-Band) and dual-polarization radar (X-Band) in estimating rainfall in the Yogyakarta region, employing two Z-R equations, Marshall-Palmer and Rosenfeld Tropical Z-R relations. Verification datasets consist of 3 months rainfall records, obtained from strategically positioned automatic weather stations (AWS) and automatic rain gauges (ARG). The findings indicate that single-polarization radar, especially when using the Marshall-Palmer Z-R equation, exhibits better performance with smaller errors.
