Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies of Coastal Community in Timbulsloko Village: Facing the Impact of Climate Change

摘要

Climate change is contributing to the intensity and frequency of natural hazards such as floods and abrasion in coastal areas. Understanding these patterns and trends is key to planning effective disaster responses in disaster risk reduction. Timbulsloko is one of the villages affected by high abrasion. Such conditions certainly threaten the lives of the Timbulsloko Village community therefore steps are needed to map the impacts caused and analyze the form of community adaptation and mitigation in facing the risk of abrasion due to climate change. In this study, modeling was carried out to analyze shoreline changes using Genesis (model for simulating shoreline change) and analyzing coastal vulnerability based on the Coastal Vulnerability Index. Meanwhile, to find out the forms of adaptation and mitigation of the community regarding climate change and its impact on community activities and livelihoods, in-depth interviews were conducted. The research method used in this study is a mixed method and triangulation to validate and strengthen quantitative and qualitative data processing. The research findings indicate that the coastline in the inundation area is consistently and increasingly changing every year. As a result, the Timbulsloko community has had to adapt physically, socially, and economically. To mitigate the effects of the rising water levels, both structural and non-structural strategies are being implemented. These include building wave breakers, hybrid engineering, constructing sea walls using used tires, planting mangroves, monitoring land subsidence, and utilizing local wisdom.
