Attitudes and Adaptation of Robusta Coffee Farmers in Community Forest Areas to Climate Change in West Lampung Regency

Climate change has a significant impact on reducing the production of several agricultural commodities. Agricultural commodities are closely related to climate change because they rely on natural factors in their cultivation process. This study aims to identify the attitudes and adaptations of robusta coffee farmers in community forest areas to climate change. The research was conducted from October to December 2021 at Pekon Rigis Jaya, Air Hitam District. The location was chosen deliberately as a center for robusta coffee in West Lampung Regency. The number of respondents was 30 robusta coffee farmers who cultivate coffee plants in the community forest area. Data was collected using a questionnaire using the Likert scale method with a scale of 1–4 and analyzed using a qualitative descriptive. The results of the study illustrate that farmers’ attitudes toward climate change obtained a score of 87, which means that farmers agree that climate change has had an impact on coffee productivity. Climate change affects seasonal changes (shift of rainy season, rain intensity, length of dry/rainy season), and climate change reduces coffee production. One way to overcome climate change is through planting NTFP trees, and climate change has a negative impact on agriculture. As many as 83.33% of coffee farmers has adapted to climate change. Adaptation practices carried out by farmers to climate change are using high-yielding varieties and planting coffee shade trees. Shade trees are useful for increasing soil fertility, protecting soil erosion, maintaining soil moisture, and protecting coffee plants from wind and rain with high intensity.
