Research Trend on the Effect of Temperature Change on Fish Physiology and the Contribution of Asia

Global climate change, including rising water temperatures, can significantly impact fish physiology and aquatic ecosystems. This paper aims to analyze the progress of research on the effect of temperature change on fish physiology (ETFP) and map Asian scientists’ contributions over the last decade. This present study was performed in August 2023 through a bibliometric analysis. The initial number of retrievals papers from scopus.com was 318 for the whole year (1947–2023). After refining the search, 181 papers were resumed. The result revealed that the number of published papers increased between 2013 and 2023. The USA contributed the most publications worldwide. After further screening, it was found that Asian scientists contributed 44 papers (25%), 36 papers in English and the remaining in Chinese. Scientists from the University of Tokyo contributed the most to the research output of ETFP. Nongye Gongcheng Xuebao Transactions of the Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering was superior in producing papers on ETFP. The main subject area on ETFP papers in Asia over the last decade was agricultural and biological sciences. VOSviewer illustrated that Asian scientists produced two main clusters of research output in ETFP, including water temperature and fish physiology. Fish physiology, metabolism, and environmental factors were the least observed parameters reported in Asia for the last decade. This study’s findings could help other researchers recognize the trend and develop their study on the influence of climate change on the three variables.
