Radar Signature of an Organized Rainfall Triggering MCS Extension During a Flood Event in the Dry Season Over Greater Jakarta

Normally, floods occur during the rainy season. However, a flood event hit North Bogor, Greater Jakarta, during the dry season on June 19, 2023, due to an organized heavy rainfall. The heavy rainfall and high wind have contributed to the occurrence of a flood, landslide, and high wind in the area. The heavy rainfall was observed by a rain scanner radar (RSR) installed in Cibinong City, southward of Jakarta city. The organized rainfall was initiated by two local convections in the northwest, the northeast, and the south side of Greater Jakarta. The two rainfalls from the north and south have merged on the North Bogor, contributing to the occurrence of high wind and heavy rainfall in the area which created a meteorological disaster. The merged rain cell has joined with a dissipating MCS to prolong its life cycle from 11 to 17 h and propagated eastward from above ocean to above land.
