A Study on the Application of Web-Based Tools in the Cultivation of Translation-Related Search and Verification Competence in the Big Data Era

This paper discusses the definition and cultivation of translation-related search and verification competence in the big data era. Three translation competence models are introduced to clarify the definition of translation-related search and verification competence, i.e., the PACTE Group, Transcomp Group and EMT Group. After providing some web-based tools for translation verification, this paper analyzes how they are applied in translation. It proves that they effectively guarantee the accurate translation of proper nouns, culture-loaded words, phrase collocation and quoted information in Chinese-English translation. This paper’s findings shed light on the cultivation of translation-related search and verification competence by improving translators’ strategic competence, technical skills and advanced reading capability.
