Visual representations in illustrations of Sani‘ ol-Molk’s The Thousand and One Nights are influenced by sociopolitical and gender norms of the time, as well as representational techniques intended to elicit particular emotional reactions from viewers. The examination of these illustrations underscores that the visual representation constitutes an autonomous discourse that demands a deeper exploration beyond surface interpretations. Furthermore, I explore the potential for further research to extend the goals of this book by delving into paintings from preceding and subsequent eras or by examining Sani‘ ol-Molk’s broader body of works.
