Atshybaev, who fought at the front during the First World War, and then became involved in the work of the Western branch of the Alash-Horde. He established contacts with the West Siberian Army and British representatives in Western Siberia. He created a geological map of potential sources of oil using innovative methods at the time: the geophysical method of oil exploration and the method of analyzing micropaleontological data. Under his leadership, comprehensive geophysical surveys of a number of oil fields were discovered and carried out, the first geological map of the Kondybay field was compiled, and the layered structure of oil in Zholdybay was determined.
