Role of Chemical Sciences in Sustainable Development in India
摘要
Since the formation of the United Nations (UN) the most significant and notable events occurred on 25th September 2015, when the 193 member states (including India) of the UN General Assembly agreed on a cooperative global mission to transmute the planet through 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (with 169 targets) to achieve a sustainable future. NITI Aayog, a government of India’s premier think tank in coordination with the UN team for India, is working on SDGs and schemes related to SDGs. It is clear from the target set by the UN that the SDGs will not be achieved without a massive effort of chemical science. In India, chemical science plays a vital role in accomplishing UNSDGs. The American Chemical Society identified seven SDGs where chemical science can directly contribute. This book chapter expresses how chemical science is contributing to achieving the seven SDGs in India.
