Limitations and Future Directions for 4-Hexylresorcinol Applications
摘要
This chapter explores the potential applications of 4-hexylresorcinol (4HR) in various medical fields, including neurologic disease, dental pulp regeneration, viral disease, and osteoporosis. 4HR is an organic compound known for its antiseptic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. Although there is no direct evidence of 4HR’s use in dental pulp regeneration, its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties could be beneficial in dental procedures. 4HR has shown potential antiviral activity against respiratory viruses and SARS-CoV-2 in vitro, but further research is needed to determine its safety, efficacy, and optimal dosages for various viral infections. In the context of osteoporosis, a study found that 4HR effectively inhibited osteoclastogenesis and mitigated bone loss in an ovariectomized mouse model, suggesting that it could be a promising therapeutic option for osteoporosis. However, more research, including long-term studies, clinical trials, and comparative evaluations, is required to validate these findings and better understand 4HR’s potential as a therapeutic agent in different medical applications.
