Application of Omics Approaches to Improve Bioinoculant Performance

Bioinoculants are regarded as ecologically friendly microorganisms that are used to enhance soil quality and supply host plants with vital nutrients. This alternative to chemical fertilizers has resulted in increased agricultural yields, prompting interest in studying the innovation process. Gene-editing tools can modify the desired gene product in designed microbial inoculants. Furthermore, contemporary biotechnological methods such as OptKnock, flux balance analysis, constraint-based modeling, and modeling of biological networks have been discussed to improve the capabilities of bioinoculants. While these methods provide a fascinating perspective of the metabolic network, detailed kinetic data is required to better understand these fluxes. Additionally, by incorporating enzyme-coding genes, these techniques can help stimulate metabolic networks. This review explains how systems biology and gene-editing techniques can be used to enhance the potential of bioinoculants while also acknowledging the current challenges and multifaceted future of systems biology.
