摘要

Eyelid margin malposition includes ectropion—an outward turned eyelid margin and entropion—inward turned eyelid margin. The eyelids are trilamellar structures consisting of anterior, middle, and posterior lamellae. While the orbicularis muscle in the anterior lamellae helps in eyelid closure, the tarsus and the eyelid retractors help in providing stability during eyelid opening. Etiological types and classification of both ectropion and entropion are important for planning surgical management. Thorough clinical examination is sufficient for establishing the diagnosis. Involutional type of ectropion and entropion are commonest. They arise from horizontal and vertical eyelid laxity and frequently affect the lower eyelid. Some common surgical procedures include the lateral tarsal strip and the Jone’s lower eyelid retractor plication.
