Lumbar Puncture

CSF analysis is useful in a variety of neurological disorders both acute and chronic and helps in the rapid diagnosis of the condition. CSF analysis usually consists of measurement of the opening pressure measurement, biochemical analysis, cytology, histopathology, assay of biomarkers and microbiological evaluation. In certain disorders, lumbar puncture (LP) is also utilized as a therapeutic procedure for drainage of large volume of CSF or for introduction of drugs into the intrathecal space.
