The Glossopharyngeal (Ninth) and Vagus (Tenth) Nerves

The glossopharyngeal (CN IX) and vagus (CN X) nerves are intimately related and have similar function and additionally have the same nuclei of origin in the medulla and have motor and autonomic branches. Hence both the nerves are usually evaluated collectively in view of difficulty in separating the actions of the two nerves.
