An Investigation of Fashion for Career Development in Women's Role in the Apparel Industry in Sri Lanka

The apparel industry in Sri Lanka has made a significant contribution to the nation's economic development and gives lots of job opportunities for women's empowerment. However, the apparel industry still has issues with gender discrimination and the reluctance to give chances to get the advancement of women into senior roles. The purpose of this study is to examine how fashion plays a supportive role in women's carrier development in the Sri Lankan apparel industry. This study will specifically look at the connection between wardrobe preferences, professional image, and prospects for career growth for women in the apparel industry. A survey questionnaire and semi-structured interviews will be utilized as part of a mixed-methods strategy to conduct the activity. The female employees in high-ranking positions in the Group of MAS and Brandix in the Sri Lankan apparel sector are investigated through the survey by setting up a questionnaire in order to gather information on their fashion preferences, opinions about their professional image, and career aspirations. A selection of survey respondents who have successfully advanced in their careers in the sector will participate in semi-structured interviews. Their techniques for success and experiences utilizing fashion as a tool for job growth will be covered in the interviews. This study makes the hypothesis, based on previous studies, that there is a positive connection between a woman's recognized professional image in the Sri Lankan apparel industry and her fashion choices, which in turn has a beneficial impact on her career growth chances. According to the study, women who intentionally use fashion to improve their professional image are more likely to be viewed as having project leadership personalities and are more likely to advance in their jobs than those who do not. And the study focuses on women's career development and empowerment in the Sri Lankan apparel industry, which is aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals such as gender equality, responsible consumption, and production. The results of this study will shed light on how fashion may support women's growth in Sri Lanka's garment sector. It is anticipated that the findings will help to shape policies and initiatives that promote women's career advancement and improve working conditions for women in the sector. The study will also offer suggestions and approaches that women can take to improve their professional image and possibilities for job progression. The research's unique selling feature is that it offers a thorough analysis of the relationship between fashion preferences, professional image, and career advancement for women in Sri Lanka's garment industry.
