Proposal of Floating City Concept Instead of Landfill with Artificial Ground that Has a Free Rebuilding System

As a means of expanding the land necessary for human activities, land reclamation has been carried out in coastal areas in addition to reclamation of flatlands and forests. These human activities have had a great impact on the natural environment and ecosystems. As the global population continues to grow and become more concentrated in urban areas, there is a need to expand coastal land while minimizing environmental impact. As a solution, it is being considered to float the functions necessary for the city on the coast using floating structures. On the other hand, if a large-scale land is required, the floating structure, which is designed to integrate the floating ground and the building structure, cannot be rebuilt as freely as landfill sites. In order to solve this problem, this research proposes a floating artificial ground system that realizes a land area comparable to a landfill site with floating artificial ground, allows construction in any position, and can be reconstructed. This is a three-layer structure system in which a load distribution layer and a flexible pit layer are provided on the floating structure layer. The load distribution layer disperses the concentrated load of the building, and the flexible pit layer enables the installation of building foundations and equipment. In addition, we devised a device that allows the foundation of the building to be fixed and detached. Furthermore, it is a system that has a ballast function to correct eccentricity due to building layout. In this study, static stability was verified by a model that assumed a block of 150 m × 150 m and arranged three buildings. In addition, we will describe the floating city concept in Singapore, which was conceived as an application.
