Forming Mechanism of Faults and Their Controlling Action on the Traps in Kelasu Area

The Kelasu structural belt is the main area for natural gas exploration and development in Kuqa. At present, there are large gas reservoirs such as Keshen 2, Keshen 8, and Keshen 9, which are important targets for increasing reserves and production in the Tarim Oilfield. Therefore, it is particularly important to explore the structural development characteristics of the Kelasu structural belt and search for favorable zones and potential structural targets. The thrusting of the South Tianshan Mountains is the main controlling factor for the formation of the Kuqa Foreland Basin. The analysis suggests that the long-distance and unbalanced nappe forms a series of diagonal faults in the Kelasu area, which result in development of Oblique ramps. The Oblique ramp provides space for structural development and is a favorable location for structural development. Starting from tectonic movement and fault development mechanism, the characteristics of structural development and the mechanism of structural development are analyzed and studied, and the “Oblique ramp structural style” is discovered, which provides a guidance to search for favorable zones and new traps.
