Role of Seismic Technology in Gas Field Development: A Case of Tight Gas Demonstration Area in Ordos Basin

Ordos basin has huge amount of natural gas resources in tight reservoir which has the strong heterogeneity and low production. In order to promote its development effect, a series of integrated technologies of seismic geology and engineering for tight sandstone gas reservoirs is proposed and taken into practice in the tight gas demonstration area of Sulige gas field. The high-quality three-dimensional seismic prediction results are used to define the superimposed pattern of river sand bodies, to elaborate the spatial distribution of sand bodies, and to guide static design before drilling. The application of seismic in the whole life of gas field construction is realized among three stages: optimizing well design before drilling, supporting real-time geo-steering during drilling and fracturing. Under the guidance of this seismic series, the gas-bearing reservoir rate of 77 horizontal wells is 7.51% larger than that of the previous wells, and its average AOF is 659,950 m3/day.
