Application of Dielectric Logging Instrument in Unconventional Complex Oil and Gas Development

Due to the complex geological structure of the reservoir, the influence of formation fluid salinity, and the complex electrical characteristics, it is difficult to accurately evaluate the complex reservoir using conventional resistivity method in the process of exploration and evaluation of unconventional shale oil and gas, fresh water reservoir, water flooded reservoir and other complex reservoirs. Since the dielectric constant of water is much greater than that of oil, gas and rock matrix, the measurement of dielectric constant can effectively identify and evaluate complex reservoir fluids. Firstly, this paper introduces the principle of dielectric logging and the main advantages of a new array dielectric logging instrument, establishes the equivalent magnetic dipole model, and derives the calculation formula of electromagnetic wave propagation in layered media. Then, the formation conversion chart of the dielectric logging instrument was obtained, and the dielectric measuring instrument was developed. At last, an unconventional shale oil and gas logging application was carried out in a certain oilfield, and the actual logging results show that dielectric logging technology can effectively and accurately identify oil and gas in complex reservoirs.
