摘要

Bi-layer ceramic–metal armour is commonly adopted for protection against ballistic impacts. There are few semi-analytical models for prediction of the ballistic limit velocity and residual velocity of projectiles against such ceramic–metal bi-layer targets. These models depend on several parameters from experiments. Therefore, in this work, the adaptability of a simple penetration model (Simha et al. in Proceedings of Indian conference on applied mechanics (INCAM), IIT Delhi, 13–15 July 2015) [1] which depends only on one experimental parameter is explored by calibration and comparison with experimental results. The accuracy of the model is also compared with another popular model of Chi et al. (Int J Impact Eng 52(2013):37–46, 2013) [2] specifically developed for ceramic–metal bi-layer targets.
