摘要

This chapter provides an overview of co-supervision policies and practices in New Zealand (NZ) universities. It explores the historical development of doctoral supervision and highlights the formalisation of supervisory agreements in response to increased postgraduate enrolments. Introducing a policy allowing international PhD students to pay domestic fees further contributed to the growth of doctoral enrolments in NZ. This chapter focuses on the roles and responsibilities of co-supervisor workloads and best practices. The data presented in this chapter is drawn from previous research on co-supervision in NZ, web searches on doctoral supervision policies in NZ and also interviews with four Deans of Graduate Research Schools. The chapter sheds light on the co-supervision landscape in NZ universities, highlighting critical considerations for successful co-supervision in doctoral programs.
