Blockchain Solutions for Cost-Efficiency and Traceability in Indian Food Distribution

India, the world's second-largest producer of fruits and vegetables, continues to grapple with issues of hunger and food scarcity. One of the primary challenges contributing to this situation is the prevalence of middlemen in the food supply chain, causing farmers to receive inadequate profits. This paper addresses the pressing issues of low traceability and high transaction costs within the Indian food industry and introduces innovative blockchain models as a solution. Blockchain technology emerges as a game-changer, eliminating intermediaries in transactions and fostering significant cost savings. Additionally, its inherent security features make it an ideal candidate to tackle traceability concerns. Our research involved a comprehensive questionnaire-based study, collecting responses from food and technology industry professionals across various Indian cities. We conducted descriptive and quantitative comparison analyses, primarily employing nonparametric tests for inferential statistical analysis. The results clearly indicate a significant shift in travel patterns before and after the pandemic. This study underscores the transformative potential of blockchain in the Indian food supply chain. By reducing transaction costs and enhancing traceability, blockchain technology can address critical issues and inspire further adoption and collaboration in India's food industry.
