Early History / 2: The Early Period of Music in Japanese Animation. From the 1930s to the Advent of Tōei Dōga (1956)

  • Yōhei Nagato

摘要

This chapter is a well documented essay on the early period of music in Japanese animation. It examines the trend of animation music from the live performances in the silent movie era to the late 1950s, when Tōei Dōga studio was founded. The four main points of the chapter are the relationship with Japanese traditional arts and influence from overseas, the issue of post-scoring and pre-scoring, the continuity and/or discontinuity between prewar and postwar, the expression of animation music in those days.
