Re-written Songs, Musics and Dubbing for Anime / 7: Finland

This chapter is a case study of the various anime series dedicated to the Finnish Moomin franchise. Namely, the 1990–1992 series, made in Japan and imported to Finland, was dubbed in both Finnish and Swedish, Finland being a bilingual country: here the comparison of Japanese and Finnish voice actors brings in interesting comparisons about the concepts of voice acting for children- and all-family-oriented tv programs. The original music was composed by Sumio Shiratori, but his theme song for the Japanese version was changed into a happier tune by Benny Törnroos for the Finnish market. Moreover, the chapter discusses how voices, sounds, and music build meaning, mood, and character in the Moomin animations, in an intercultural perspective.
