Chiral Tectonics Promoted by VCD: Multi-nuclear Complexes

This chapter describes the contribution of VCD to the field of multi-nuclear coordination compounds. It is emphasized how VCD promotes the tectonics approach for synthesizing multi-nuclear complexes systematically. In the case of star-burst tetranuclear Ru(III) complexes, their dual properties were characterized by VCD. The chirality of central and peripheral regions was discriminated. VCD manifested the induction of axial chirality in the linkage part of a meso-type dimeric Ru(III) complex. The bond distance dependence of axial chirality was investigated by VCD for a series of dimeric Pd(II) complexes.
