Applications of High Voltage Pulse Generators in Physical Security of Critical Infrastructure

High voltage pulse generator, also known as an electric fence energizer, is a crucial component of an electric fence-based perimeter intrusion detection system used for the physical protection of critical infrastructure. Its primary function is to provide deterrence to intruding adversaries and detect intrusions at the facility's perimeter. HV pulse generator was designed and tested in a test electric fence. The paper discusses design of an electric fence perimeter intrusion detection system and HV pulse generator, including parameters related to human safety, advantages and limitations. It also discusses improvements carried out for overcoming few limitations of electric fence PIDS.
