Nanotechnology Approach for Nose-to-Brain Drug Delivery

Neurologists define neurological disorders (ND) medically as conditions that affect the brain, the nerves that run throughout the body, and the spinal cord. Treatment of neurological disease is still challenging. Whether given orally or intravenously, therapeutic medications need to penetrate the blood–brain barrier (BBB) in order to reach the brain. A rising number of therapeutic medications have the potential to be used to treat neurological conditions. However, it has been realised that the potential of these drugs is being hampered by extraordinary difficulties in the delivery of therapeutically meaningful doses. As is well known, there is hope for the treatment of neurological illnesses in the developing field of nanotechnology in the biological sciences. Application of nanomedicine offer the bypassing of protective barriers during therapeutic medication via nose-to-brain (NTB). Additionally, the NTB route is currently being studied as a potential drug delivery technique for the treatment of neurological disorders because it avoids the BBB and delivers drugs straight to the target with the necessary concentration. Hence, regulated drug release can improve the delivery of nanoformulated medicines by NTB route in target concentration across BBB to the brain. The current chapter addresses the most recent developments in this field with a focus on nanotechnology-based methods and describes the mechanism of NTB route of drug delivery.
