Cyberforest Using Video and Sounds
摘要
This chapter introduces the audio census, a bird monitoring by the nonprofit organization Bird Research, using audio streaming provided by the Cyberforest project. During the first 3 years of the audio census that started in 2011, a comparison with the traditional field census confirmed that the audio census in a remote location can replace a large portion of the field census, which made the audio census continue uninterruptedly for 13 years. Multiple factors have contributed to the program’s continuity for more than a decade. The aims of the Cyberforest are not tied solely to community science, which paradoxically gives it continuity as a community science program. One of the methodologies for community science to gain continuity may be the creation of a platform, where a variety of stakeholders, including those outside of community science, can participate.
