IceCube and the Future of Astroparticle Physics from the South Pole

  • Manisha Lohan

摘要

The IceCube Neutrino Observatory located at the South Pole discovered a diffuse flux of astrophysical neutrinos at TeV-PeV energies in 2013–14, opening a new window to the Universe. Subsequently, several neutrino source candidates have been identified by IceCube exploiting information from other messengers. IceCube has also identified our Galaxy to be a source of neutrinos. Unleashing the full potential of neutrino astronomy by resolving the neutrino sky will require IceCube-Gen2, featuring an optical array with almost an order of magnitude larger instrumented volume inside the ice than IceCube. This offers rich opportunities for the Indian physics community.
